FanDuel and Delaware North announce partnership in West Virginia

Global betting brand FanDuel has announced a partnership with Delaware North for an exclusive agreement at the Mardi Gras Casino & Resort location in West Virginia.
The Charleston region’s biggest venue for entertainment and gaming will benefit from the deal between the hospitality giant and one of the leading lights in sports and betting in the United States.
FanDuel and Dakota North announce partnership deal
“We love working with FanDuel and are very proud to be partnered together in West Virginia,” Delaware North’s Chief Interactive Gaming Officer Lee Terfloth said.
Delaware North is known for catering to the biggest event contracts in global sports, with a reported half a billion guests across three continents. The location in Cross Lanes, West Virginia, also serves 150 hotel rooms, and the casino boasts slot machines, table games, poker, an online casino, and a greyhound track.
FanDuel’s Business Development Senior Vice President Jonathan Edson said of the deal, “Delaware North has been a respected name in gaming and hospitality for decades, and they are an ideal partner as we continue to operate in West Virginia.”
The deal does mention that FanDuel will continue to provide sportsbook offerings in White Sulphur Springs, West Virginia.
“This partnership represents the best of what Delaware North strives for, bringing trusted, innovative experiences to our customers – and FanDuel is an incredible ally in that mission,” concluded Terfloth.
FanDuel active across the latter half of 2025
FanDuel has been active in 2025 in launching new partnerships and exploring new ways to offer wagering to consumers. As we reported, CME Group and the gambling brand announced a new collaboration that enters the realm of prediction markets.
At the time of the deal, Terry Duffy, CME Group Chairman and Chief Executive Officer, said, “We have created this innovative partnership, which will operate a non-clearing FCM. Together, our event-based products will appeal to the growing public interest in markets, and we will provide education to attract a new generation of potential traders not active in derivatives today.”
The move comes as FanDuel has two new products to rush in the new NFL season, their Bet Protect program and a number of offerings via the company’s new FanDuel Picks app.
Bet Protect is similar to the substitute bet guarantees seen with the likes of BetFair, Paddy Power, and Bet365 that relate to a player’s injury.
It adds an added incentive to bets when a player is removed from the field of play in prop and straight bets in the first quarter of an NFL game. These bets will still qualify officially as a loss, but the user betting on the outcome will receive a bonus bet to cover the injury.

The other big reveal from the betting titan is the FanDuel Picks app, which is a new peer-to-peer fantasy sports selection option for those who love the fantasy side of the NFL.
Those registering to try the app for the first time and who stake $5, will, according to the advertisement, receive $60 in bonus credit to use the app.
“Just in time for NFL season, we are excited to bring fans a social way to engage with the sports and athletes they love with the launch of FanDuel Picks,” said Rob Cullen, FanDuel Picks General Manager.
The app is available in seventeen states, including; Alabama, Alaska, Arkansas, Georgia, Minnesota, Missouri, Nebraska, New Hampshire, New Mexico, North Dakota, Oklahoma, Oregon, Rhode Island, South Dakota, Texas, Utah, and Wisconsin.

Kalshi crosses $1 billion in monthly transaction volume

Prediction market Kalshi has surpassed rival Polymarket in a recent release, citing that the company has hit the $1 billion monthly transaction mark.
The latter company is still the second-biggest prediction market in the USA, with $700 in monthly financial statistics, but Kalshi has almost doubled Ploymarket’s monthly take.
Kalshi almost doubles rivals’ monthly financial volume
The prediction market leader has had a stellar rise to the top of the wagering food chain, despite being landlocked to U.S. soil. According to recently released data, the company accounts for 62.2% of the world’s prediction market volume, which is a far cry from the 3.1% at the same time last year.
As we reported, Kalshi has cashed in on partnership deals with the likes of Fox in an initial dip into the NFL. Kalshi will now offer, as of September 5, 2025, prop bets that will cover lines that the prediction market couldn’t previously offer.
The company reportedly also set single-day transaction records of 588,520 trades as part of the NFL’s Game Week 2 fixtures. With Mansoor saying, “Kalshi is bringing more liquidity, efficiency, and price competition to markets in the $400 billion sports industry, and our traction so far is testament to that.”

We are excited to be partnering with @NFLonFOX and Mark Sanchez this football season.

Although these props are not as in-depth as those of established sports betting operators like FanDuel and DraftKings, they represent the prediction market’s maiden voyage into sports betting beyond their usual fare.
A recent Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) filing further showed the prediction provider’s projected betting trajectory with excerpts like “titled: ‘Will occur in ?” as part of the submission to the market regulator.

Kalshi is now officially sports event contracts on a single game with multiple outcomes.

The loopholes allowing Kalshi to offer their markets similar to trading mean that the broad swathe of bets or predictions equates to a single yes/no outcome on most markets. Still, Kalshi is looking to delve into sports betting further.
A previous Kalshi board member, Brian Quintez, now sits as the Chair of the CFTC, which could mean the company’s case for further legitimacy in the eyes of the government lawmakers could go over a lot easier than previously projected.
Bringing these markets under CFTC oversight gives consumers the same level of protection as Wall Street traders and institutions,” commented Mansoor.
Kalshi executives excited for further growth
American politics is currently firmly focused on financial and consumer market information, such as the recent September 2025 Federal Reserve decision-making. Notably, Kalshi’s $91 million in transaction volume dwarfs the five previous years of decision markets on the same subject.
“It’s remarkable to see how fast Kalshi is growing,” said Tarek Mansour, CEO of Kalshi. “We’ve been heads down focusing on building a product we love, and we let the score take care of itself. This result is a testament to how good the team at Kalshi is.”
Kalshi seems set to stay as a staple of the wagering world, and its unique position in the trading market could mean further growth for the brand.

SGLA urges California Governor Newsom to veto AB 831

The Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) has urged California Governor Gavin Newsom to veto the decision to pass Assembly Bill 831 (AB 831).
A vocal critic of AB 831, the SGLA has published a statement urging the senior figure to reconsider the decision that has effectively banned online social games connected to sweepstakes casinos in California.
SGLA urges Governor Newsom to rethink AB 831
Jeff Duncan, Executive Director of SGLA, said of AB 831’s passing, “This bill would worsen economic disparities among California tribes, put California to the back of the line in terms of digital innovation in this space, and take away a popular form of entertainment for residents.”
The SGLA remains in complete opposition to the bill, citing a potential loss of $1 billion to the Californian economy, as indicated by market research conducted in August 2025 by Eilers & Krejcik Gaming.

California’s AB 831 is misguided. ⁰
“It is outrageous that lawmakers are prioritizing a bill to ban online social games…this is not what I want my representatives to focus on.” – Stephanie M., Santa Cruz

— Social Gaming Leadership Alliance (SGLA) (@SGLeadership) August 15, 2025

This would also, warned the SGLA, leave the 1,191 jobs in this industry in limbo, alongside the $208 million in household earnings, through ripple effects in the supply chain.
AB 831’s journey
We have extensively covered the journey of AB 831 from its inception to the numerous oppositions within the Sunshine State.
The bill had been approved in early 2025. It was then shelved to accommodate specific tweaks before being revived in June 2025 by Assembly member Avelino Valencia, with initial support from the California Nations Indian Gaming Association (CNIGA).
Following the fine-tuning of the bill, sweepstakes casinos and sweepstakes would face the incoming wrath of California lawmakers. The California Public Safety Committee approved the bill after the legislation was agreed upon, prompting the bill to move on to the next part of the approval process.
The SGLA remained in open opposition to the bill, stating that its passing could lead to criminal liability for businesses that would lose income.
Three California Tribes, the Sherwood Valley Rancheria of Pomo Indians, the Kletsel Dehe Wintun Nation, and the Big Lagoon Rancheria, would also add their opposition to AB 831.
Buffey W. Bourassa, Secretary of the Sherwood Valley Rancheria Tribe, wrote his own letter to the committee presiding over the bill.
Bourassa said they (Sherwood Valley), “respectfully oppose AB 831. This bill lacks the alleged unanimous support among California tribes, has advanced without meaningful consultation of broader tribal interests, and threatens our inherent right to create legitimate revenue streams to support our people.”
Bill nears closer to completion
Major players in the iGaming scene, such as Evolution and Pragmatic Play, began to pull out of the California market after the City of Los Angeles filed a civil enforcement action.

Breaking: Pragmatic Play is actually pulling its games from all sweepstakes casino operations in the US. It has become the first major provider to exit the controversial sweepstakes casino vertical amid regulatory pushback and lobbying from traditional gaming interests.
— Zak Akoo (@ThomasAkoo) September 2, 2025

Critics and observers were looking at the end of the line for the lucrative sweepstakes casino scene after AB 831 was further fine-tuned with the intent to ban online sweepstakes casinos.
The updated text read, “(a) It is unlawful for any person or entity to operate, conduct, or offer an online sweepstakes game in this state.” With the revisions complete, the bill moved on to the last stretch of Senate approval and then the pen of the Californian Governor Newsom.
With the bill now in the limelight, the SGLA has committed to working with Newsom to make its point heard.
Duncan concluded, “We implore Governor Newsom to veto this bill and instead open the door for online social games to support economically disadvantaged tribal nations and the state’s economy while positioning California as a leader in next-generation gaming technology.”
