BetMGM leaps into entertainment sponsorship with new podcast deal

BetMGM is partnering with Better Collective to push further into the entertainment industry. The casino company will become the sponsor for the video podcast, “Roommates Show,” and the new show, “No Limit”.
The move, which BetMGM states is the company doubling down on the industry sector, especially within podcasts like the Roommates Show, follows a rise in gambling content online. Outside of news and guides, gambling content on Instagram, TikTok, and YouTube has become ever more prevalent.
Only Twitch, Amazon’s video game streaming site, has enforced rules on gambling content after several high-profile streamers spent hours gambling in front of its young audience. Seeing this, Kick was set up with the backing of Stake and uses that income to fulfill its enormous contracts.
The move comes just a couple of weeks after a rebranding for BetMGM, which puts Jon Hamm at the center of its branding.
Star studded lineup for new BetMGM sponsored show
No Limits, the new show, is about blackjack, hosted by NBA star Iman Shumpert, and is joined by Mario Chalmers in a half-chat show, half-gambling show. It functions effectively like any other online chat show, but features the two gambling at the Borgata Hotel Casino & Spa and is split into two segments, Double Down and Aces Only.

Double Down is when “the guest is dealt a blackjack hand that would typically call for a ‘double down””, they’re presented with something they said online or in another interview, giving them the chance to “double down” or walk it back. Aces Only brings highlights to the show, and “activates” when the guest draws a BetMGM-branded ace.
The episode digs into scoring, point guards, and other players, as well as some mild introspection. According to BetMGM, 12 episodes are planned to be posted weekly.
Playmaker HQ speaks on new gambling show

Speaking in the press release, Matt Schwimmer, CEO of Playmaker HQ, the studio behind the shows, said:
“Our shows have always thrived because they’re hosted by dynamic athletes who bring authenticity and energy to every episode.
“‘No Limit’ is the next step in our evolution as we expand into casino content with the All In brand. It combines entertainment, personality, and unfiltered conversation in a way that truly connects with fans. We’re excited for everyone to experience it and grateful to BetMGM for being such a strong partner in making it happen.”

Chicago mayor loses big as committee votes to overturn video terminal ban

Despite being strongly against introducing video terminals for gambling purposes into Chicago, the mayor, Brandon Johnson, has failed to convince a committee not to overturn the law. Video terminals, or referred to as “video gaming” by some involved in the hearing, can be virtual slots, poker, or other interactive gambling games.
Anthony Beale, mayoral critic and the City Council dean, has said it’ll effectively be a “sin tax”. He claims that it could bring in $60 to $100 million per year to the state if the gambling machines were allowed to populate locations. Speaking with Crain’s Chicago Business paper, Beale said:
“It’s better… than to hit people with property taxes, fines, and fees. Speed camera tickets and things like that. This is something that a person has to opt into; they have to want to go.”
Public and businesses comment on the Chicago video terminal ban
While some businesses and officials opposed the idea, there were those who sat on the side of approval. During a 30-minute public comment session, constituents and representatives were limited to three minutes to make their case. Sam Toia, who represents the Illinois Restaurant Association, backed the move to introduce video terminals:
“It is a proven revenue generator. As a matter of fact, we are in favor of all legalised electronic devices.”
He claims that introducing these machines into the industry would flush brick-and-mortar stores with another potential revenue stream. This comes at a time when the restaurant industry is on its back foot, post-pandemic, and amid the ongoing cost-of-living crisis.
One speaker, who is against the ordinance, said that he’d only back it if the city owned the machines being introduced. His reasoning was that if the city owned them, it’d ensure that all the revenue would go to the city and give an influx to public services.
The Managing Director for the Hospitality Business Association of Chicago, Pat Doerr, also spoke. He points out that licenses to open bars have dropped since 2020, and have significantly dropped since 2012. Doerr’s main point was to ensure that “taverns”, as described by the law, aren’t excluded from the initiative.
The director stated that introducing these machines into venues won’t affect established gambling businesses like the casino, which Doerr uses as an example of how inner city businesses are relying on their success to “shore up” various costs.
Johnson is reportedly not interested in supporting the idea, unless the city were to receive more from taxation. Currently, Chicago has not changed anything on this level.

Sweepstakes casino defenders SPGA and SGLA to merge

California’s anti-sweepstakes bill has been moving rapidly and with success since its overhaul earlier this year. Two parties, the SPGA and SGLA, both groups that represent the “social gaming” world that incorporates the sweepstakes casinos at the center of the bill, are now merging to try to fend it off.
However, it’ll be the Social and Promotional Gaming Association (SPGA) that will be disappearing into the SGLA (Social Gaming Leadership Alliance) as it’s very likely that the bill, AB 831, will pass. It’s now on its way to California Governor Gavin Newsom, who is the last person in the bill’s way to passing.
There’s been no indication as of yet that he’s against it, as there have been some connections with tribal casinos in the state, most of which oppose sweepstakes casinos operating in California.
According to reporter Victor Rocha on X, formerly Twitter, VGW, the company behind the SGLA impacted by bans on sweepstakes casinos in the US, has been offering $1 million to tribes who oppose the bill. He now claims that some tribes are concerned about being “stiffed” now that their campaign has been unsuccessful.

My sources are telling me that VGW offered the small California tribes $1mil each for their support. Now the tribes are worried they’ll get stiffed. I’m trying to get an accurate fix on the story.
— Victor Rocha (@VictorRocha1) September 14, 2025

The SPGA and SGLA have both been vigorously campaigning to ensure that the bill doesn’t pass, without much impact. Each time the bill has been voted on, it has passed with flying colors. Rocha comments on X that “They ran an embarrassingly bad campaign.”
SLGA comments on sweepstakes rep merger
Speaking to ReadWrite, the SGLA said:
“The SGLA and SPGA have always been separate entities with separate memberships – albeit advocating for the same industry – and that remains the case. We have appreciated our collaborative work with the SPGA and wish their team and members all the best.
“The SGLA was established to drive industry integrity, protect players, and advocate for appropriate oversight of online social games with sweepstakes, and we will continue championing those goals.”

Norwegian Lottery Authority hits Norsk Tipping with $1M fine

The Norwegian Lottery Authority has levied a fine of NOK 10 million ($1 million) on Norsk Tipping for a massive flaw in its gaming system.
The flaw resulted from an algorithm that was incorrectly entered during the Norwegian lottery draw, which led to thousands of players receiving erroneous winnings and SMS push notifications.
Norsk Tipping receives heavy fine
As we reported at the time of the incident, Norsk Tipping contacted 47,000 Norwegian residents eligible to bet on the competition, and 30,000 of these users were incorrectly informed that they were lucky prize winners.
Anya Therese Markhus, commented on the breach, saying, “Norsk Tipping has violated the Gambling Act. People should be able to trust their games. The fact that several thousand players receive a notice of excessive winnings is clearly harmful to trust.”
The error formula or algorithm incorrectly converted the prize winnings from Eurocents to Norwegian kroner, which was multiplied by one hundred instead of being divided by one hundred.
Tonje Sagstuen, the CEO of Norsk Tipping, stepped down in June 2025 after it came to light that the controls in place at the company were lax and led to the national scandal.
Trust in Norsk Tipping at an all time low
Atle Hamar, Director of the Lottery and Foundations Authority, was stark in his recent summation of the lottery error and echoed the message of Makhus, saying, “Players should be able to trust Norsk Tipping, and this is a serious breach of trust.”
Since the time of the error, Norsk Tipping has tried to address many of the errors and contact the bettors impacted by the issue, but trust is at the heart of the matter for the lottery and betting company.

Carl Fredrik Stenstrom, who is the Norwegian Industry Association for Online Gambling (NBO) Secretary General, wrote on X: “Norsk Tipping has had a monopoly on gambling for almost 80 years. Now trust is at a historic low, and they have made too many mistakes to be able to have the market alone.”
Norsk Tipping has been given three weeks to respond to the million-dollar fine (which is equal to 0.1% of the company’s 2024 turnover) or the Norwegian Gambling Authority will take further action, according to the release.
This isn’t the only time Norsk Tipping’s failings have come to a national spotlight, as we reported earlier this month. The Norwegian Lottery Authority imposed a 46 million kroner ($4.5 million) fine for the discovery that there were flaws in the Eurojackpot extra draw and Lotto super draws.
